National Library

The National Library of Bhutan was established in 1967 under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Ashi Phuntsho Chode with a modest collection of ancient religious texts. Intriguing picture frames that illustrate historical events are also mounted on the wall. The area is tranquil and teeming with historic tales and legends from Bhutan

that will keep you engaged and engrossed.

The library is one of the largest collections of Buddhist literature in the entire world with a sizable collection of 6100 volumes, xylographs, and manuscripts in Bhutanese and Tibetan. It also holds 9000 printing boards and wooden printing blocks for religious publications.

For people who enjoy history and folklore, it is one of the top locations to visit in Thimphu.
