Buddha Dordenma is the ideal location if you’re a photographer looking for exceptional works of art and ideal backgrounds in Bhutan.
It is great for taking pictures and appreciating the beauty in the early morning light.
The enormous golden statue of Shakyamuni Buddha was built to mark the 60th birth anniversary of Jigme Singye Wangchuk, the fourth king of Bhutan. The statue views Thimphu’s southern gate from atop a gilded meditation hall in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park. The statue was built in 2015, and Buddhists revere it as a sacred location. It is said that yogi Sonam Sangpo prophesied that a Buddhist statue will be erected in the region to “bestow blessings, serenity, and happiness to the whole globe”. It is also believed that Guru Padmasambhava, also known as the “second Buddha,” made reference to the statue in the ninth century.
