The past and present of the Jambay Lhakhang are equally colorful and fascinating. Supposedly one of several temples constructed to subdue a demon, it now serves as the site of the Jambay Lhakhang Drup festival, which features the sacred Tercham, or Naked Dance.
The one-story temple structure, which is located on a plateau by the Bumthang Chhu River, is now well-known for its annual festival among tourists. The festival honors Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava), the Buddhist master who dedicated the Jambay Lhakhang temple in the eighth century, is performed annually to mark the completion of the temple and to remember its construction.
