Chimi Lhakhang: A Unique Temple in Bhutan

A Temple with a Rich History:
The Chimi Lhakhang temple is located near Sopsokha village in the Punakha District of Bhutan. According to legend, Lama Kunley, also known as Drukpa Kunley, defeated the demoniac Dochu La and consecrated the land for the temple. Drukpa Kunley was a renowned Buddhist master known for his unconventional teaching methods.

A Symbol of Fertility:
The temple houses a wooden phallus emblem, said to bring fertility to women who visit the temple seeking to conceive. The emblem is believed to ward off evil spirits and malevolent rumors. The surrounding village also features phallus symbols painted on walls and hung on doors, adding to the temple’s unique charm.
